Traditionally, research has connoted controlled laboratory experiments, run by scientists in white lab coats using complex instrumentation; however, the maturation of a clinical profession brings with it the realization that research has a broader meaning as it is applied to the patients and situations encountered in practice. He has published more than articles in scientific journals and has edited two textbooks – "Inflammation, Basic Principles and Clinical Correlates" (Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins, , now in 3rd edition) and "Principles and Practice of Clinical Research" (Academic Press, now .

One of the most crucial skills a clinician, scientist, or student can learn is to create, conduct, and interpret the conclusions of a clinical study. Critical Thinking in Clinical Research teaches these fundamentals in four distinct sections, called "units": the first unit focuses on issues surrounding the design of a study such as population, question selection, randomization, and blinding 5/5(1).   The NIH Clinical Center offers training to help prepare the next generation of translational and clinician scientists. The innovative programs include summer internships, postbaccalaureate fellowships, clinical elective rotations, medical student research programs, graduate medical education, and continuing medical education.

Official website of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH is one of the world's foremost medical research centers. An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the NIH is the Federal focal point for health and medical research. The NIH website offers health information for the public, scientists, researchers, medical professionals, patients, educators, and students. Clinical Supervision: A Competency-Based Approach is a comprehensive, up-to-date scholarly resource for training and supervising mental health practitioners. Supervision has for years been central to training psychologists and other mental health professionals in clinical settings, and in that time supervisors have worked with little or no framework or guidance.
